“Children show me in their playful smiles the divine in everyone.” — Michael Jackson

Why is it that most everyone loves to be around children? Because they are pure in spirit and up until a certain age are not tainted by our world’s programmed beliefs and limitations. Because they often ooze such joy and allow us to see the world through their fresh eyes. Because they remind us of who we all once were. Because they are love.

Unfortunately as we get older, we tend to lose our childlike spirit as well as our ability to be spontaneous. Often we get stuck in our ways and lose our sense of curiosity and wonderment and all too often, life feels like a chore. I don’t believe life was meant to be lived this way. In fact, I believe losing that sense of innate joy and playfulness is just as much of a contributor to any ill health as eating an unhealthy diet, or not getting enough exercise or sleep; it all plays a part.

“We do not quit playing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit playing.” –Oliver Wendell Holmes

Children are a window into our authenticity and our divinity. They are Divine Creativity being expressed freely in each moment. They give the world and all of us hope. And that’s why Michael Jackson committed his whole life to the well-being of children… because he knew that within them was the key not just to our own genius, but the key to the health of humanity and our planet’s future.

I completely agree and it is because of this that every year my team from State of the Heart Fitness ( participates in a wonderful fundraising event on May 31st that literally changes the lives of so many kids, and in particular, inner city kids from LA!  The event is called, “Pedal on the Pier” put on by the Harold Robinson Foundation (

Check out the video to learn more about this foundation! If this doesn’t give you tears I don’t know what will! <3

And another video to share more of the event itself!

I am excited to say State of the Heart Fitness has raised over $7500 in the last two years for these kids to go to camp! And we need YOUR help! We have two teams, State of the Heart Fitness ONE & State of the Heart Fitness TWO! We’re looking to raise $2500 per team!

If you feel moved to contribute (any little bit helps!), here are the links for our teams:
