“I respect the secrets and magic of nature… That’s why it makes me so angry when I see these things that are happening… That’s why I write these kinds of songs… to give some sense of awareness and awakening and hope to people… I love the planet.”

–Michael Jackson, This Is It

In light of the Earth Day and all of the celebrations and awareness this week about taking care of our precious planet, I am reminded of the journey Michael guided me on while writing my book, Michael Jackson: The Man in Our Mirror, A Reflection of Our Collective Soul.

One day in January of 2012, I was riding my bike in Santa Monica and all of a sudden, I just knew I had to go to Hawaii that month! Huh? Where is this coming from? I wasn’t even thinking of Hawaii (though one of my favorite places on the planet, by the way).

Long story short, I scheduled a trip to the Big Island (I just felt I needed to go there for some reason even though Kauai is my usual place to visit) and while I was flying there, I remember feeling uncertain as to why I was going, but knew Spirit was guiding me for some reason, as it always does.

Though I was only there for 5 days, by the 3rd day, I was getting clear… oh… this is why I am here! Michael was calling me here because he wanted me to experience something extremely important and he wanted me to experience it with my heart, firsthand! Ironically, before I came to this awareness, I had been listening to Michael’s “Earth Song” (from This is It) over and over in my car and on my headphones. I was so close to finishing my book (only had a few chapters to go) and so I would write every morning for a few hours before I ventured out to explore. Well… I started to connect the dots. The chapter that was coming through me was, “Earth Song: A Call From the Deepest Part of Our Heart.” His song was calling me to be inspired… to really hear it and feel it. The experiences I also had on the island (by myself and often alone in the intense beauty and energy of Earth in it’s rawest form – the ocean, the lava, the trees the sun… etc) were also calling me deeper to feel it all! Michael knew that the only way I could really write this chapter to the depth it needed was for me to be there… submerged in the midst of the planet’s soul… FEELING it to the fullest! Whoa! It was intense!

But what was most amazing was what I experienced on the last morning I was there. Oh my God. Michael sure orchestrated it so well and beyond what I would’ve ever imagined (which is often what happens when we allow ourselves to trust in Spirit and follow the call of our hearts)! It was a whale watching tour that even blew the socks off our captain who said himself, “This is the whale watch of the century!”

Here we were, 12 of us (including our captain and his mate), in a zodiac raft surrounded – and yes, I mean SURROUNDED – by whales!!!! Mothers and their babies swimming right under and alongside our boat… big, huge daddies breeching out of the ocean with huge splashes that brought tears and cheers of immense joy from all of us witnessing this scene!! It was like being in another world! These whales were putting on a show! They wanted us to see and feel!

And it was then that I heard Michael’s cry, “What about crying whales?” from Earth Song. Oh my God… this was it! THIS is what he wanted me to see and feel in the deepest part of my heart! It wasn’t just a concept in my mind, it was a reality in my heart! As I shared in this chapter:

“I was definitely hearing the earth sing to me. Not only did I hear it, but I also saw it and felt it immensely. It was Divine Perfection, and Michael was simply showing me, once again, how life works when we listen and feel from our heart and allow ourselves to be in Spirit as well as in nature. When we do that, we naturally become inspired, and this is where the miracles and magic happen. But it also reflects an even greater truth about who we are: that we are the miraculous and we are the magic…

… The earth is simply an extension of our body. The water that makes up the oceans, lakes rivers and streams is the same water that courses through our own cells. How we treat the earth is ultimately a reflection of how we treat ourselves. The more we value our body, mind and spirit, seeing the interconnection between the three and embracing the wholeness and fullness of our spirit, the more we recognize our connection with all of life, including our relationship to each other and to the earth!”

Oh how very true! The earth – our planet, our home! As Michael shared… in honor of our beautiful planet:

As always, thank you for your love and example, Michael!

Let us love our dear Earth Mother like no other!

God bless us all!
